In 1836, Peter Mondy built the first gristmill in Cedarville Township at this location. Mondy also had a distillery connected to it. The mill was eventually purchased by Samuel Charlton, and renamed the Charlton Mill. Samuel operated the mill for roughly 20 years, producing an excellent quality of flour.
